Taradale is an affluent area with one of the highest socio-economic demographic profiles in the Hawkes Bay.

The area is well known for a high standard of schooling with decile ratings ranging between 7 and 10.

Over 97% of the eligible population is employed contributing significantly to the region’s prosperity with disposable income levels higher than the regional average.

Rapid Residential Growth

Taradale is experiencing rapid residential growth as demonstrated by Taradale South growing at a phenomenal 12% and Greenmeadows at 6.4%. 

To meet the increased demand for middle to high-end residential property, there are several new subdivision developments underway in Parklands, Mission Heights, Citrus Grove and Kent Terrace with over 1400 residential sections in progress.

House pricing 17% above the regional average

For the period January to August 2007, the median house price in Taradale was 17% above the regional average for Hawkes Bay and 15% above Napier.

In July 2007, Hawkes Bay went completely against the national trend with a sharp jump in its median price from $268,100 to $287,000 or 7%.

By comparison, in the same month, Taradale was 5.2% above the national average of $345,000 with an average sell price of $363,000.

Foot traffic growing at 13%

The main street of Taradale, Gloucester Street, has one of the highest pedestrian counts in Hawkes Bay with a current growth rate of 13%.

The average pedestrian count is 27% higher than the successful village of Havelock North, reflecting strong local loyalty and residents desire to shop locally.

Redevelopment of the old  Mitre 10 site and pedestrian link has drastically improved access to the previously underutilized 280 car parks on Lee Road. The Laneway is now a focal part of the high street and the primary link to the Lee Rd carpark which in turn is due for significant upgrade works commencing March 2010.
