Eastern Institue of Technology – 12,000 students and staff

In addition to the resident population, Taradale township is well located to capture business from the 12,000 students and over 300 FTE staff based at Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT), just over 1km away.

EIT offers more than 90 programmes at postgraduate, degree, diploma and certificate level, and aims to meet the demands of the regions' key industry groups with unique programmes offered in areas such as Viticulture, Wine and Food Science, and Sport and Recreation.

Tourism Opportunities

Location, location, location

Taradale attracts a significant number of tourists from locally based initiatives.  Mission Estate and Church Rd are two of the most frequented wineries in Hawke's Bay with combined annual visitor numbers well in excess of 300,000.  The annual Mission Estate Concert is world renown attracting up to 25,000 visitors while Church Rd Winery has over 70,000 visitors annually. 

Gloucester St, the main street and shopping area of Taradale, is located within 2km of the wineries and is perfectly situated to benefit from the regular influx of visitors generated by these wineries.

The Hawke's Bay region attracts over 1 million tourists a year with visitors spending an estimated $400 million, mostly on accommodation and food.  Tourism is a rapidly growing income opportunity with private visitor nights in Hawkes Bay recording the largest increase in New Zealand of 24.2%.

Taradale’s proximity to Napier, the Port and the Airport provides significant opportunities to secure a higher percentage of the tourist dollar in the Taradale township.

Pettigrew Green Arena – over 330,000 visitors annually

Directly across the road from EIT is Pettigrew Green Arena, a regional asset comprising of an all-weather Sports and Events Centre with a seating capacity of up to 4000.  Visitor numbers in 2009 are estimated to be over 330,000. The facility is open 7 days a week and caters for regional, national and international sports events, is a major conference, trade show and music concert venue and houses the offices of Sports Hawkes Bay and a myriad of regional sports.

Park Island Sports complex is within 5 minutes drive of Taradale and is heavily used for local, regional and national sporting events, in particular soccer, hockey and rugby.
